Jeder Server speichert dabei Aufzeichnungen aller "Konten" des Netzwerks. Wie bereits von anderen Kryptowährungen bekannt speichert auch Stellar diese Aufzeichnungen in einer [[Blockchain]]. Die Server schlagen dem Kassenbuch Änderungen der Transaktionen vor, dies geschieht in der Regel durch Zahlung einer gewissen Gebühr eines Kontos oder durch Besitzerwechsel. Über ein Konsenssystem müssen die Server einer Reihe an Transaktionen zustimmen, damit diese der Blockchain hinzugefügt werden können. Der Prozess des Konsens findet kontinuierlich statt, meist alle zwei bis vier Sekunden. == Geschichte ==
Zu Beginn basierte Stellar auf dem Protokoll von [[Ripple|Ripple]]. Nach mehreren kritischen Änderungen am Konsens-Algorithmus wurde das Netzwerk von Stellar durch einen Hardfork kreiert. Aufgrund der erwähnten Probleme stellten die Entwickler von Stellar eine neue Version des Protokolls mit dem neuen Konsens-Algorithmus zur Verfügung, bestehend aus komplett neuem Programmcode. September 2017 verkündete Stellar, neue Partner würden nunmehr mit einem Prämienprogramm bedacht, das bis zu 2 Millionen US-Dollar betragen kann.
